Tutorial for Stained Glass Glitter Embellishments/GardenDecorations
Tutorial by Jacquie Heffner (AfterHoursStamper.com)Have you ever wanted to make a glitter embellishment that seemed to come alive?Well, if you said yes, this tutorial will show you how to make some of the most amazing, glittery and translucent embellishments you have ever seen. Are you ready? Thenfollow the directions below.Supplies:
Supply List
* Versafine ink pad (or any ink pad of yourchoice, just make sure the ink will stay wet longenough for you to emboss)* Rubber stamp (should have lots of empty space)* Glitter (I used DecoArt Glamour Dust, greatglitter)* Heat gun for embossing* Clear embossing powder* Transparency (I used the one for copiers)* Sakura Glaze Pens, various colors* Toothpicks for blendingStep by Step Directions:STEP 1: Stamp your image onto the transparency, pour clearembossing powder on image, and carefully use yourheat gun to set the powder. (you can use aembossing buddy on the transparency before youstamp your image which will keep stray embossingpowder from sticking to your transparency.)NOTE: Some transparencies do not take heat well, mine don't so I have to hold the heat gun a bitfarther away from the transparency, and then keepthe heat gun moving and at the same time pullingthe heat gun away from the transparency to preventthe transparency from melting. Be careful and you will be fine.Line up your Glaze pens, have a toothpick ready to use for blending.STEP 2:Flip your transparency over and start to color on the side that is notstamped/embossed.

I start with my lightest colors and move to thedarker colors. To blend as you go along you can doone of two things:* Use the pens to pull colors into each other sothey blend* Use the toothpicks to blend the edges wherecolors meetDon't worry if it looks like your colors are not toowell blended, you will be going over the coloring afew times which will soften the lines.Color one section of your image at a time, you willbe adding glitter to your image in the next step.STEP 3:After you have laid down your first coat of colorsprinkle your glitter onto the wet parts of the ink. While your first section is drying, start to coloranother section and add the glitter. (I have used anumber of color combinations in the tutorial to giveyou some ideas on what colors you might want touse, the image on the right has yellow, green andblue, yes the green is very, very light)When your first section is dry to the touch you canadd another layer of color in one of two ways:1.) Use your pen and daub the color on top of thefirst layer, the Glaze pens are easy to use thisway and leave little dots of color that you can just build on.2.) Use your pen in the normal way to color, however you have to be carefulnot to press too hard or you will "lift" your first layer of color and glitter off.Lighter colors are going to be more translucent, ie, the yellow and green are verylight, the blue and purple are harder to see through.

The picture on the right shows what your image willlook like as you are adding color layers. The leftside has two layers of color (and it is darker) andthe right side has only had one layer of color.I usually do about three layers of color, alwaysflipping the image over to see where I might havesome bare spots of color. You only need to add the glitter once, but if youwant you can add a bit a second time after yourlast layer of color.STEP 4:When your images are dry cut them out and attach them to a card (I just use someclear drying glue). For the butterfly and dragonfly I simply put some glue on the body(no glue on thewings), let themdry and then bendthe wings up a bitso they stick upand look like theyare flying. You will love howtheseembellishmentssparkle and looklike stained glass! If you want you can also use the images in the yard, sprinkle them in your flowers forsome really cool little eye candy, like this:
