The Institute, a reputed earth science centre for Himalayan Geology, was established to carry out basic researchin the Himalaya with the major objectives of : (a) to undertake,promote, guide and coordinate research of a high caliber, togenerate data on the earths structure, mountain building and relatedprocesses in the Himalaya, (b) to carry out research for thedevelopment of new concepts and models on various geo-scientificaspects of the Himalaya, and (c) to provide and promote effectivelinkage between various scientific and research agencies,laboratories and professional organizations working in the countryin the field of Himalayan Geology and related areas. The Institute isalso charged with serving as a National Reference Centre fortheGeology of the Himalaya and to provide basic data and high levelexpertise to academic institutions, research organizations andindustry in the country. The Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geologyhas its own research geoscientists currently working on severalprojects under the following specialized areas:
1. StructuralGeology and Tectonics, 2. Petrology and Geochemistry, 3.Biostratigraphy and Sedimentology, 4. Geomorphology andEnvironmental Geology, 5. Seismicity and Seismotectonicsof Himalaya. Qualifications Essential:
(a) Doctorate degree inEarth and related Sciences and atleast 15 years research and /or teaching experience, of which at least 3 years should be in thenext lower grade in the pre-revised pay scale of Rs. 18,400-500-22,400 or 8 years experience in the pre-revised pay scale of 16,400-450-20,000. (b) Original research work, (c) Administrativeexperience, (d) Programming and leading research teams, and (e)Organisational experience in scientific institutions.
Desirable
: Experience of research work in Himalaya or similar terrain.
Job Requirements:
The Director will have the overalladministrative control of the Institute and will provide high levelleadership to the Institute in identification of research programmesand projects of national and international relevance in variousspecialized fields of earth sciences related to Himalaya; to enthusescientists of the Institute; generate creativity and excellence andcreate an atmosphere conducive to harmonious functioning of theorganization. He will interact and establish rapport with nationaland international academic and professional institutions andspecialists dealing with Himalayan terrain, and ensure multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional cooperation towards fulfillmentof the objectives of the Institute.
