Eczema (also known as atopic dermatitis) is an incurable, cruel skin conditions that afflictsmore than 15 million Americans. Most scientists believe eczema is related to the overreactive response by the body’s immune system. Some also believe that there is a geneticconnection. If a parent or other family members have eczema there exists a 50% chancethat a child will have this affliction.Symptoms of eczema include dry, damaged skin that allows irritants such as pollen, dust,and dirt to enter the skins surface more easily. The skin affected by these conditions usuallylooks dry, red, and scalyAdditionally, these areas become extremely itchy. Eczema can affect the whole body but ismost commonly found in specific areas such as the hands, feet, elbows, and knees. Inadults, eczema can also affect areas such as the eyelids, neck, and wrists. In children, themost common areas are the cheeks, chin, back, stomach, and arms.
