Oh!!! Sidenote! I agree how awful it would be to not have any fingernails to scratch an itch - dreadful. Use the toe mail clippers to gently clip your cat's claws. We do our cat's hind feet about every two weeks or so. They are used to it and it DEFINATELY makes it better when they climb around on us. Just be careful not to cut too far down into the "vein" and Problem Solved - no more extremely sharp claws. (in first post, I meant "front" feet declawed)

Playing Devil's Advocate: I personally do not endorse declawing cats nor criticize those who do. Declawing cats is a topic that stimulates quite a wide variety of opinions, all very passionate and heartfelt. That's why information like this and OPEN discussions are very important -thank you, Rog99. Before deciding whether or not to declaw a cat, the you should look into ALL the options and reasons for doing the procedure. As with any surgical procedure, there are health risks for the Pet Patient. Now, just because there have been occasional adverse results from the procedure, though, does not imply that the cat declaw surgery should NEVER be done on any cat. Once the risks are assessed, you will be better able to make a personal decision regarding reasons to do or not do the cat declaw procedure. My two Cats were adopted as adults - they came back feet declawed. I knew full well when I decided I wanted the pitter patter of non-human feet in my home again, that I would have to be prepared for a certain amount of clawing the sofa...as Adult Cats, had they not been declawed I personally would NEVER even consider such torture. If they were baby kittens - I'm not really sure. Fascinating debate, though - now let's talk about circumcision....
