Missing Cell Phone
Ah Meng was laying down carpet in a wealthywoman’s home. As he was finishing his job, he got asudden urge to light a cigarette. He looked around for his pack of cigarettes but could not find it. Then henoticed a bump in the carpet. “Oh damn it,” Ah Mengcursed, “my pack of cigarettes is under the carpet and Ihave laid the carpet over it.” He decided not to take upthe carpet…it would be too much work. Instead he gota hammer and pound the pack of cigarettes into theground. He believed no one would know. When he had finished the hammering, the owner of thehouse walked into the room and said, “Oh, you havedone a wonderful job laying the carpet in the hall, AhMeng. I am sure you must be looking for your cigarettes. Here’s your pack. I found it in the kitchen.Oh yes, by the way, did you see my hand phone?”
Reflections* Too often we make terrible mistakes by jumpinginto conclusions based on what we see on a superficiallevel. More investigation is needed.* Some workers in carrying out a paid task do not doan honest job. They cheat and cut corners. They willleave to regret their dishonesty.
