Dear Rep. Brown:
On behalf of the 55,000 members of the national Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT), I want
to thank you for joining Congressman Gary Miller as one of the lead signers on a letter to the
House Appropriations Committee, requesting $10 million for the Civil War Battlefield
Preservation Program in Fiscal Year (FY) 2010. As you know, this funding is critically
important if CWPT and other private sector groups are going to continue to protect Civil War
battlefields of national importance.

We are extremely pleased that 28 other House members joined you in support of the
Battlefield Preservation Program. ‘Thank you for making it possible to demonstrate this hi
level of support to Appropriations Committee.
J also want to thank your Chief of Staff, Chris Berardini, for providing advice to my staff and
coordinating with Congressman Miller's office.
It may interest you to know that in the past year, the program has been used to save key parcels
at battlefields like Brandy Station in Virginia and Perryville in Kentucky. In the next few
‘months, we are expecting grants to be awarded for battlefield land at Third Winchester and
Glendale in Virginia, Fort Donelson in Tennessee and Bentonville in North Carolina. This work
would not have been possible without your leadership on Capitol Hill,
Again, thank you. CWPT is indebted to you for your support of historic battlefield preservation,
IfT can ever personally be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to ask. We look forward to
Stoning wily. I
