This is an expanded version of a presentation at the Seminar Janusz Korczak and the Convention of the rights of the child, held on June 6, 2009 in Geneva, Switzerland. The author is Dr. Joop Berding from The Netherlands. The article describes the ideas about children's participation of the Polish-jewish writer, doctor and educator Janusz Korczak (1878 or 79-1942). In his so-called constitutional view on education Korczak connects participation, respect for the child, the development of a community and democratic citizenship.
