BASIC ELEMENTS OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING?

Positive Interdependence -students perceive that they need each other to complete the groups task Face-to-face Promotive Interaction -students help, share ideas and encourage each other.

Individual Accountability -teacher gives individual test to each student/randomly in the group to give the answer. Interpersonal & Small Group Skills -include leadership, decision-making, trustbuilding, communication and conflict management skills Group Processing -groups need specific time to discuss and maintain good r/ship whileworking

Limitations of cooperative learning approach

Time: Group work need more time than independent work

Students who use the group time for purposes besides work

Students who do not like to work in groups

Difficulty in evaluating the teamwork skills that students demonstrate during group work.

Involves the provision of tasks that enable students to practice the teamwork skills they are expected to learn
