Information
The portraits can take up to 24 hours per subject and I use the best materials you can
buy for both mediums, hence the prices (although I am one of the most reasonable
about).
The pastel portraits are created using the finest handmade soft pastels by Unison. They
are painted onto a special hahnemuhle velour pastel paper to help give the impression of
‘hair’.
Due to the nature of soft pastels I do not paint three subjects on anything less
than 36x48cm as it is very difficult to get the detail in for that size, any smaller would
not be of a quality I would be happy with. Similarly, any less than 3 three subjects on
A2/50x70cm in either medium, would start to lose its quality.
I have to send the pastels framed otherwise they will smudge in the post so the price
allows me to pack them properly and send them special delivery. Anyone wishing to
have a pastel painting without the frame will need to pick it up in person.
A choice of frames is available on request.
The velour background for the pastel work is available in a number of colours. These are
white, middle grey, yellow, green, jaffa orange, dark grey, sandy, ochre, light grey and
black.
Unless a specific colour is stated, I will choose a colour I see fit according to the subject.
This will usually be a shade of grey.
See below
If you are having trouble choosing a size, feel free to email/call me and I will gladly talk
you through it.

Photography Tips
Photos should be taken as close up as possiblein natural light. I am able to enlarge the
photos but this will only be successful if taken with a good camera. The higher the
resolution, the more detail I am able to add, the more realistic your portrait.
The above picture shows how a clear, bright day helps to create different tones on the
coat. Sun shining directly onto a face can result in a somewhat two dimensional image
rather than a life like one.
I would rather receive a hundred photos and pick out a suitable candidate than work
from an unsuitable photograph.
For your portrait to look its absolute best, the most flattering angle is the one that is
shown above although it is obviously your choice.
Photos taken from above don’t look good and so I would ask for the photographer to get
down to the animal’s level whilst snapping.
