DEFINITION OF LEADERSHIP
A leader may be defined as a person whoestablishes vision, sets goals, motivates peopleand obtains their commitment to achieve the goalsand realize the vision.
Leadership and management are quite different.
leaders take a personal and active interest inachieving goals whereas managers tend to play arelatively passive role in accomplishing goals.
Managers need power to be entrusted to them bythe organization to deal with people. Leaders havepower within themselves and the required drive tolead people and motivate them to workenthusiastically toward achieving objectives.(Contd.)

If managers are required to work alone withoutassistance from people they become anxious andtense. However, leaders can act confidently evenif they need to work independently.
Managers limit their interaction with people to theminimum extent required to carry out theirmanagerial responsibilities. Leaders interact withpeople frequently and in a more natural way. Inthe process, they inspire people, motivate themand lead them.
