.—Subsection (e) of section 207 of title18, United States Code, is amended—(1) by redesignating paragraph (7) as paragraph (9);(2) by redesignating paragraphs (2) through (6) as para-graphs (3) through (7), respectively;(3) by striking paragraph (1) and inserting the following:‘‘(1) M

.—Any person who is a Senator andwho, within 2 years after that person leaves office, know-ingly makes, with the intent to influence, any communica-tion to or appearance before any Member, officer, oremployee of either House of Congress or any employeeof any other legislative office of the Congress, on behalf of any other person (except the United States) in connectionwith any matter on which such former Senator seeks actionby a Member, officer, or employee of either House of Con-gress, in his or her official capacity, shall be punishedas provided in section 216 of this title.‘‘(B) M

RESENTATIVES
.—(i) Any person who is a Member of theHouse of Representatives or an elected officer of the Houseof Representatives and who, within 1 year after that personleaves office, knowingly makes, with the intent to influence,any communication to or appearance before any of thepersons described in clause (ii) or (iii), on behalf of anyother person (except the United States) in connection withany matter on which such former Member of Congressor elected officer seeks action by a Member, officer, oremployee of either House of Congress, in his or her officialcapacity, shall be punished as provided in section 216 of this title.‘‘(ii) The persons referred to in clause (i) with respectto appearances or communications by a former Memberof the House of Representatives are any Member, officer,or employee of either House of Congress and any employeeof any other legislative office of the Congress.‘‘(iii) The persons referred to in clause (i) with respectto appearances or communications by a former electedofficer are any Member, officer, or employee of the Houseof Representatives.‘‘(2) O

.—Any person whois an elected officer of the Senate, or an employee of theSenate to whom paragraph (7)(A) applies, and who, within1 year after that person leaves office or employment, knowinglymakes, with the intent to influence, any communication toor appearance before any Senator or any officer or employeeof the Senate, on behalf of any other person (except the UnitedStates) in connection with any matter on which such formerelected officer or former employee seeks action by a Senatoror an officer or employee of the Senate, in his or her officialcapacity, shall be punished as provided in section 216 of thistitle.’’;
