While I agree both with Dabadge and Omnidavid that the case did not show due cause, I have to object with the language Obama's assistant attorney general uses in his motion. To mention status quos and scarce resources - especially from the administration of a President who stresses the importance of change, and believes that throwing America's resources, including money we don't have, can solve any problem - when speaking about the fed's stance on gay marriage gives me indigestion
I want us all to have the same rights and privileges. However, I have to agree, the case that was brought did not show cause. Now, how do we create the cause seems to be the problem. If we have to discriminated against to have a case, that seems counter productive. If I know that when I apply for some right, be it federal or local, and can show cause, why can a court not hear the case...But fine, let's first show that we applied.
Personally, I feel the state should get out of the marriage business. It is a religious rite, not a civil right. We do separate between religion and state, Don't WE?
Defendant has demonstrated that the plaintiffs have no legal legal basis for their case. This has nothing to do with morals or beliefs, it has to do with proper exercise of the rule of law in this country. When somebody sues with proper standing, there may be something to argue about. These guys just brought a bad case to court, nothing more or less. The Justice Dept. has an obligation to defend itself on the basis of the law against all plaintiffs, regardless of the reason they bring suit. Quit whining and bring a decent legal case to court.
Barack Obama must have put his hand on the constitution and swore to uphold his bible. His administration claims that they are upholding the law here, but what they are really doing is pandering to the rest of his heterosupremacist supporters who voted for Prop Hate in California. As with the rest of his supporters, he obviously believes that the constitution only applies to the people he approves of or accepts. The bronze age sun revolves around the flat earth bible is based on ignorance, as is this decision by the Obama administration.
