The "Remember November Farmworker Caravan" (Aug. 4- Sept. 8) will join othergroups visiting the home offices of Congresspersons in 27 districts in Florida in themonth of
August. “We know that they are in their local offices because they are on a
five-week
break from congressional session,”
said Tirso Moreno, General Coordinatorof the Farmworker Association (FWAF), headquartered in Apopka.
“We understand
they don't even have immigration reform on their agenda when they return to Congressin September, so we are here so
they don't forget our cause.”
Caravan participants arecalling for a comprehensive overhaul of immigration policy with the bill passed by theSenate in March as a starting point for the House of Representatives. Farmworkerprovisions in that bill reflect a compromise hammered out by representatives of farmlabor and agricultural employers. It has been endorsed by the U.S. Chamber ofCommerce and the Farm Bureau, as well as by farmworker unions. The Remember November Farmworker Caravan is organized by: the FarmworkerAssociation of Florida; Farmworkers Self-Help; Young American Dreamers; ImmigrationInformation Advocates; Centro Campesino; and Rural Coalition. The Caravan will pass through the areas of Apopka and Orlando on Friday, August 30
