Description

A new voice speaks to the hungry soul seeking meaning in a becalmed material society. A life transition is told as it is lived inside one person’s head. Years in high tech are re-examined through the lens of human interest. The story line is of escaping the capital of superficial, missed love and dieing career to find peace on the high seas and a new home in paradise. The adventure is mixed with insights into the failings of business and government that serve those whose money and power control it. The story remains uplifting as the human spirit finds peace in action and love without material. Readers will recognize the frustrations of life, dreams of escape and hopes of finding real meaning.

A Halfway to Nowhere is my story of an American Dream being overwhelmed by disillusion, an ending relationship and a belief that there is more to life. Setting sail from the west coast, leaving one life behind, arriving in paradise to start a new, to pursue the dreams floating around in my head. Three years later to find myself back where I started, it is still LA but I'm not the same person. Sailing, a start up and a couple of good fights helped me find what has always been but I wasn't aware of. This story is what I found and how it changed my life.

Born into an upwardly mobile middle class family in northwest New Jersey. As an only child, I had it all my way, not the best way for an American to start their already highly privileged existence. The first hurdle of my life proved to be an apparent lack of aptitude for schooling. Half way through my secondary school education I was diagnosed with learning disabilities. A special school and then Prep School kept my education above water. I just barely made it into a college in the Nations Capital with the hopes of finishing my formal education. With a few detours here and there a degree was squeaked out in slight longer than the usual four years. After college I was off to make my mark on the world in the Golden State during the early days of the California Computer Rush. I spent the next 12 years bouncing around the software industry as a sales guy. A promotion along the way landed me in Southern California where I spent most of my software-selling career until the underpinnings of the computer industry and my own beliefs started to falter.
