ABOUT THE SEMINAR Chennai has become the hub of automobile manufacturing in India and hence it is referred to as the Detroit of India. It houses a number of MNCs such as Ford, Mahindra, BMW, Daimler, Nissan, Renault, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, etc. A technical forum on a topic related to automotive manufacturing in this historical city is significant. This seminar provides a platform for the dissemination of knowledge among the participants. Also it provides an opportunity to learn from the experts from both academia and industries. The objective of this seminar is to discuss and analyse the applications of various Engineering materials in the field of automotive manufacturing. Knowledge of materials will help in innovative and optimal design, which leads to cost effective manufacturing. The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers (i) B.E. Programme in Mechanical Engineering., (ii) M.E. Programme in Engineering Design, (iii) M.E. Programme in Manufacturing Engineering and (iv) Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering related areas. The Department has been given permanent affiliation from Anna University and it is also accredited by NBA. (National Board of Accreditation) The Department of Mechanical Engineering is recognized as a Research Centre by the Anna University, Chennai. The Department has highly qualified and dedicated faculty members and good ambience for research in the areas of Alternative fuels, Surface Engineering, Tribology, Composite Materials and CAE. The Department has conducted many guest lectures, workshops, faculty development programmes, short term training courses besides undertaking AICTE funded projects and management funded projects.
