level of innovation and eccentricity present in its parent company. The proliferation of smart devices in the military and law enforcement continues at an accelerated rate with no foreseeable end in sight. These devices are so empowering that they become mission critical components of the operators load out. They serve many roles but they are the gateway to the networked battlefield. In day-to-day operations, smart devices are used to control unmanned aerial vehicle, receive live video streams, operational area updates and a host of other activities with security classifications that preclude publishing. They serve as computational resources for example ballistic calculators, man-portable meteorological stations or simply a way to call home. Recognizing their significance, Hazard 4, in 2013, introduced the Hazard 4 Big Koala M.O.L.L.E. pouch. It was specifically designed to carry your smart device. The pouch is made from Invista 1000D Cordura. The external dimensions are 5.3" L x 3.6" W X 0.8" D, and they come in Black, Coyote, OD Green, ATACS and MULTICAM.

Hazard 4 is a relatively new comer to the tactical nylon market. The company is an offshoot of Civilian Lab located in Long Beach, CA. To understand Hazard 4 one needs to first look at its parent, as it is responsible for half of the overall genetic makeup. Civilian Lab sees itself as an experiment in progressive design accounting for its esoteric products like the lossless wallet, iPhone wallet, chest packs and a number of other interesting and innovative systems. In fact the Hazard 4 name originates from a threat level designation assigned to only the most dangerous conditions. However, Hazard 4 retains the same

The pouch is constructed with double layered fabric pads that work well to provide a reasonable level of protection for your device. Inside dimension are adequate for many of the larger smartphones like the Samsung, HTC, Nokkia and others with larger screens. Hazard 4 include double elastic side panels that do a great job of holding the phone securely but do not impede access to the device. The hook and loop closure is extremely robust so theres little chance that youll lose its precious cargo. However, dont expect a stealthy opening.

Hazard 4s Big Koala pouch is just what the doctor ordered for your smart device. The quality of construction is high, the design concept is fresh and bold, and it does what it should do provide secure access to your smartphone. Did it need a large PVC branding patch? Probably not, that real estate could have been better used to provide a nice loop panel for moral patches or what have you. But, its not grotesque either and as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In closing, if you carry a smartphone in a utility pouch, magazine pouch or in your pack consider picking up a Big Koala from Hazard 4. Its an excellent value at an M.S.R.P of $19.97
