Fundamentals of Social Filmmaking (8 weeks)
The distance learning course on Social Filmmaking will begin from 2nd of January 2010.The call for applications shall be made by the end of July 2009. Application procedures, entryrequirements and selection criteria will be published on our website by this date.All successful applicants will be notified by 20 December 2009.The course is offered completely online and is free of charge. We use a web based virtual classroom and deliver teaching materials, tutorials and assignments via that. Video conferencing can alsobe used if needed.This course does not lead to any academic degree or students do not get any credits which they cantransfer into their university degree. However, upon successful completion of this course they willget acquainted with the fundamentals of social filmmaking and, in particular, its use for socialtransformation. All successful students will also receive a certificate of completion.
Course ContentsWeek 1 and 2:
 What is social filmmaking?The use of Films and Videos for social purposes,Case studies from different countries
Week 3 and 4:
 Script writing, why and how? Where do ideas come from?Good scripts and lousy scripts, language and its use, ethical considerationsA project work on script writing
Week 5 and 6:
Video/Film shooting and Editing, what to choose: film or video?Technology and recent developments. How to find the audience for your work?Short films and social impact
 
Week 7 and 8
Basic Introduction to video editing programmes, how to edit images?Final project work: a 5 minutes long short film/documentary or an alternative written work.More information will be available as soon as application deadline is published.
