Adyar, Besant Nagar,OMR (Madhya Kailash to Siruseri), Ashok Nagar and parts of T. Nagarare among the pockets that will be Wi5-enabled as part of phase I of itsnational reach. In the next 12 to 15months the service will be extendedto the entire city and by the 24thmonth to all major metros.Now, what does that mean for youand me? Wi5 removes all the clut-tered wires you need to get or avail of a broadband connection. Also, it willenable one access high-speed (1mbps, 2 mbps and 4 mbps) wirelessbroadband connectivity through your laptop or mobile phone even when you are on the move.To enable connectivity, it hasadopted “mesh network architec-ture”, which it calls “metro Wi-Fi”. Addressing the media at thelaunch of the service, RamanujamSesharathnam, Managing Directorand Chief Operating Officer, saidthat Wi5 will bring freedom from wired limitations. “Our mantra is of-fering value for money, plus mobility – be it at home, office or while one ison the move.”Performance is the major chal-lenge for Internet service providersand Zylog Systems will be targeting the existing broadband users fornow.“There will be around 20 nodesper sq km – the key point that willenable wireless transmission,” saidJanakiraman R., Chief Operating Of-ficer and Director, Zylog Systems.Currently, 250 Wi5-enabled nodeshave been installed across the city.
