1) Group blog: as a discussion forum2) Publishing forum for writing3) Journals or Field Notes4) Personal Opinion Publishing5) Learning Journal

Establishment:
•
Students initiate the practice of recalling and recording learning events, payingattention to and expressing their feelings
•
Structured questions are provided to a: serve as a guide for contributions andb: allow students to become comfortable with the format
Introspection
•
Students begin to analyze own opinions. Structured questions remain.
•
Focus of entries shifts from “written for teacher” to “written for the world”
Reflective Monologue
•
Students no longer rely on structured questions to reflect on learning topics orclass issues. Students write for themselves.
•
After this stage, teacher can begin to phase out dedicated class time forblogging and rely on student self-direction.
Reflective Dialogue
•
Deeper reflective process requires the students to consider their style of expression, intended audience and thoughts
•
Individual styles of writers appear
•
Some students may write a great deal at this point: others may stop or slowdown (teacher redirection to stage 3 may help)
Knowledge Artifact
•
Students move from personal knowledge publishing to reflecting on theknowledge learned
•
Used as a teaching tool for OTHER students
•
Students interact with each other’s blogs through comments
