英語ノート
1 Pages 30-34 LessonToyokanbetsu Elementary (
豊寒別小学校
) on 06/15/2009 for 45 MinutesTeacher's Manual 61-70A = ALTS = Student(s)HRT = Home Room Teacher I had to change class a little from the lesson plan, as two of the class’s five studentswere absent today.11:20 – 30Greeting with subsequent questions, and TPR.
In TPR, did a run/sleep/run/sleep rotation for the first time, which workedquite well.11:30 – 55
“Let’s Listen” from page 30. The CD was once again too fast. Using an idea Iread recently from Elton Ersch

, I turned off the CD and read the dialogueslowly with the HRT, focusing on key words like “red.” Then played thedialogue again.
Practiced color and clothing vocabulary.
Tried doing “Let's Chant: Do you have a cap?”

for a few minutes, beforegiving up. Just wasn’t working. Kids were not into the song, I did not think ittaught worthwhile English, so was wasting everyone’s time.11:55 – 12:05We played “Go Fish.” Partially was to do something fun to end class with followingthe dull textbook activities, but also fit in well, as in the next lesson, the students will be studying “Do you have [clothes]?” so, practicing “Do you have” for ten minutes or so was good.Evaluation

Lesson Plan
o
Were the objectives and aims clear?
Yes, although “mastering” is probably expecting too much.
o
Were the activities effective?
Go Fish, the warm-up and page 30’s “Let’s Listen” activitywere effective. Page 31’s “Let’s Chant” was not effective,

because the song was not engaging of the students nor theteacher. Also could have been that I simply did a poor jobteaching the material.
o
Were the procedures appropriate for the students?
Yes.
Student Response
o
Did all students achieve the aims intended?
With regards to understanding “Do you like ____?” I believethey did. They all answered my questions at lunch about if theyliked things with a minimum of hesitaton.
With regards to numbers I don’t know, because I didn’t reviewthem.
o
Did they have a positive attitude toward communicating?
Aside from when I was forcibly dictating vocabulary theyalready knew at them, yes.
o
Did they all take an active part in communicative activities?
Yes.
Classroom Management
o
Was the atmosphere of the class positive?
Aside from the song and vocabulary portions, yes. Need tolearn how to still be energetic about teaching in the classroom, even if at times I feel there is a better method than the one wemay be using at that time.
o
Were instructions and questions clear?
Aside from the song, yes. With the song I really need to practice before class regardless of how good or bad I find thesong itself to be.
o
Did the two teachers interact effectively?
Yes. This was actually our best class by far on that note. Weadjusted when the children were not accepting/interested incertain activities very well.
o
Were AV and other aids used effectively?
Yes, slowing down the CD player and using it alongside aspoken dialogue by the teachers made it a lot more effective.Thoughts
Start asking follow up questions with the opening greeting.
Vocabulary today was seriously dull. Partially was me being tired, part thatthey already knew most of the words. Could have just been a unique, weirdday, but it felt quite weird some times when I asked them to repeat after me,and they really were not into it, at all.
If someone was looking for a way to make money teaching. Becoming anabsolute expert in teaching elementary school children through the Eigo nototexbook would be an excellent area of expertise with Japan moving to weeklymandatory elementary education. Next Time
Mention slow reading of dialogue in the lesson plan.
