Christina GurahooEDCI 5825Group 2Philosophy of Educational TechnologyAs a future Social Studies teacher for middle school and highschool students I plan to utilize technology in my classroom to enhancelearning in a technology driven world. Aside from the fact that we areconstantly surrounded by electronics, incorporating technology into myclassroom will provide yet another helpful tool for students who learnby experience, visually, and/ or aurally. In addition, I believe technologywill aid students who learn best using more than one learning style. The use of technology will allow students to experiment with variousmethods of learning and develop new skills, therefore providing anoutlet for knowledge.I will use distributed cognition as a means of reaching out tostudents who learn by interacting with their surroundings, otherpeople, artifacts, and guide each student to develop new skills.Students will work in groups or individually while utilizing computers toconduct research from various sources. Technology allows students todiscover primary documents in numerous media, for instance: videos, diaries, online books, scholarly journals, pictures, poems, etc. can allbe used in a Social Studies classroom to support or challenge ways of thinking.Students will be given the option of bringing in their laptops fromhome or utilizing school provided computers. If this is not possible inthe school, I will use my personal computer to upload material that isvaluable to our class in order to allow student access from anycomputer. Furthermore, if this method is not feasible for my students, Iwill provide print outs or web supplied resources, bring in videos, pictures, music, etc. to engage my students. I will provide everypossible means for students to access technology in my classroom.By working in groups students will be able to learn from oneanother’s knowledge and opinions. When I incorporate technology intothe group’s work they can then research, share resources, exchangeideas, and provide their support instantly. Students who wish to workindividually will also be able to seek information on their own usingtechnology. For example, educational websites and scholarly journalsfrequently include links and further reading with their material. This isuseful because the connections to these new sources are immediatewith the help of technology.Integrating technology into the classroom will also be used as atool to approach students in a way that will pique their interests. Whenintroducing a new topic or emphasizing main themes, I will usetechnology- such as videos, pictures, music, and other media
