PREFACE to the 2000 EDITION
This manual was developed for use by pediatric housestaff as a pocket-sizedguide to the stabilization of potentially ill children. It is not a policymanual, but offers the developing physician one reasonable framework uponwhich knowledge and practice may be built. It is our hope that this manual, used in conjunction with other sources, will contribute to resident educationand patient care by allowing rapid access to basic principles of the initialmanagement of pediatric patients. This manual was founded on the efforts of Dr. Jeff Butler and expanded uponby subsequent editors Drs.
