Important Leadership Opportunity – Aboriginal Cancer Lead
 August 2013The Champlain Regional Cancer Program (RCP) and Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) arerecruiting a regional Aboriginal Cancer Lead to engage and collaborate across PrimaryCare settings to advocate for and address the primary care needs of First Nation, Inuitand Métis (FNIM) peoples across Champlain region. This position has a reportingrelationship to the Regional Vice President (RVP) of the Cancer Program.
Position Overview
The Aboriginal Cancer Lead provides leadership on initiatives and activities to supportprimary care engagement and collaboration between FNIM partners/support systemsand health service providers across all aspects of the cancer journey. The Lead works inpartnership and close collaboration with the Champlain RVP, FNIM partners and Cancer Program Clinical and Administrative Leadership teams across the continuum of cancer care services.
Key Responsibilities
1)FNIM Advisory and Strategic Collaboration
Champions the Aboriginal Cancer Strategy (ACS) II strategic vision and goals
Provides educational opportunities on evidence-based clinical guidelines,standards and policies
Identifies and responds to regional-level system issues related to FNIM specificcancer needs
 Assists with the development of effective strategies for engaging primary care inthe implementation of the Ontario Cancer Plan as it relates to FNIM
Participates in regional and provincial FNIM expert/community panels, includingguidelines development, regional panels and research projects as required
2)Cancer Screening
 Assists in identifying screening participation targets for FNIM peoples relating tocolorectal, breast and cervical cancer 
Supports the design and implementation of regional campaigns
Supports family physicians and other primary care providers to improvescreening practices with FNIM people and facilitates a process for FNIM peopleswho do not have a designated Primary healthcare provider.
3)Cancer Care
Supports the broader mandate of the ACS II in building relationships, prevention,survivorship, and palliative care
Works with provincial & regional leadership to develop and support primary careengagement opportunities in cancer services for FNIM peoples
