Description
In the Old Testament prophesies, Jesus revealed aforetime His inner most thoughts and feelings about the experiences of His messianic work that He would go through.
Psalm 40:6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
Very clearly we see from this prophesy that the sacrifice and offering of animals was not the atonement God was looking for. He was looking for the sacrifice of His own son, the one who delights to do His will, whose law is written within His heart.
