Perfect forthe beginning knitter, you can knit this super-sim-ple garter stitch scarf as your very first knittingproject. Or if you’re an intermediateknitter, you can charm one uplickety-split before the nextmovie premiere. It’s what allthe cool Hogwarts studentsare wearing!
Instructions
With color A, CO 20 sts.Continuing with color A, beg fol-lowing desired stripe pattern(see page 95) and work rows asfollows:
Row 1 (WS):
Knit.
Row 2 (RS):
K2tog,knit to last st,k1f&b.Rep rows 1 and 2, switch-ing to color B and back tocolor A as described inthe stripe pattern (seepage 95), until scarf isapproximately 60" [152.5cm] long or desiredlength, ending with 10rows of color A for WideStripes pattern or 14 rowsof color A for Narrow Stripes pattern.

(100%superwash wool; 220 yd. [201m] per 100 g ball), #855Maroon (color A), 1 skein, and#821 Daffodil (color B), 1 skein

Wide Stripes version:
About 90yd. [82 m] each of color A andcolor B
Narrow Stripes version:
About120 yd. [110 m] of color A and40 yd. [36.5 m] of color B
US 6 [4 mm] needles

20 sts and 36 rows = 4" [10 cm] ingarter st, using size 6 [4 mm] nee-dles
Note:
Gauge isn’t terribly impor-tant in this simple scarf. You caneasily adjust the number of stitches for a different gauge yarn:Cast on more stitches to use afiner yarn or fewer stitches to usea heavier yarn.
