Visiting Fellowships for PhD Students and Postdoctoral Researchers on Indias Political Economy
Applications are invited for two visiting fellowships from advanced PhD students and early-career postdoctoral researchers working on themes related to the political economy of contemporary India. The fellowships are to be held at one of the following institutions: Center for South Asian Studies, University of California, Berkeley; Kings India Institute, Kings College London or Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR, Mumbai). The visiting fellowships will be of up to one month in duration and worth up to 4000 each. The fellowships are offered under the auspices of a trilateral partnership between the three institutions funded by the UK-India Education Research Initiative (UKIERI). Applicants must be based at a university in India, United Kingdom or the United States, and should propose to spend time at one of the three institutions located in a country other than their place of residence. While in residence, visiting fellows will be invited to make a presentation of their research and to take part in other activities at the relevant institution. Applications should consist of (a) a cover letter setting out the candidates research and proposed use of the visiting fellowship; (b) a full CV; (c) a writing sample (of up to 10,000 words). The visit should take place between September 2013-March 2014. Experimental Economics: A Survey

This field has grown exponentially in the past few decades, but is still relatively new to the average Indian academic. The Institute has created Professor P R Brahmananda Endowment Research Fund with a donation from his family members. The Endowment Research Corpus will be utilised to award research grant to young researchers working in Monetary and Macro Economics. The topic chosen for this years research award is Interest Rate, Ination and Growth. Interested young researchers are invited to send in their proposals for writing the Paper on the theme chosen for the year or submit completed paper, for consideration. The Institute will offer a research award of Rs.35,000/- for the best judged work which can be published in the Journal of Social and Economic Development or any other reputed refereed Journal. The author will have freedom to publish it elsewhere with due acknowledgement to the Institute and the Fund. CALL FOR PAPERS


The Journal invites relevant contributions for the following thematic sections: Land-related issues Rural studies encompassing rural development, management, democratization, governance, rural industrialization, rural physical and social infrastructure etc. Agriculture. 2. Manuscripts and all editorial correspondence should be addressed to: journal.crs@gmail.com or tamannashahs@gmail.com 3. Af liations with complete postal and email address of contributors must be provided along with their manuscript. 4. Special Article (8000 words), Articles (40005000 words), Policy Briefs and Updates (3000 words), Working Papers (2000 words) and Book Reviews (8001500 words) may be submitted. They should be typed on one side of the paper, preferably A4 and doublespaced throughout (even for quotations, notes, references). 5. References should be embedded in the text using the author-date-page number method, e.g. (Dubey 1989: 278). Citations should be rst alphabetical and then chronological, e.g. (Ahmed, 1987; Sarkar, 1987; Wignaraja, 1967). Use British rather than American spellings. 6. Use twentieth century, 1960s. Spell out numbers from one to nine, 10 and above to remain in gures. However, for exact measurements, use only gures (3 km, 9 per cent not %). Use thousands and millions, not lakhs and crores. 7. Tables and gures to be indicated by numbers separately (see Table I), not by placement (see Table below). All photographs/scanned images should have a resolution of minimum 300 dpi/1500 pixels and their format should be TIFF or JPEG. They should be provided separately in a folder along with the main article. Permissions to reprint should be obtained for copyright protected photographs/images. 8. The references and endnotes used in the contributions should follow the style given below and include page numbers of the articles: a. Book - Calfee, R.C., & Valencia, R. R. (1991). APA guide to preparing manuscripts for journal publications. Washington, DC: American Psychological Association. b. Journal - Scruton, R. (1996). The eclipse of listening. The new criterion, 15 (30): 513. c. Newspaper Article - Schultz, S. (2005, December 2008). Calls made to strengthen state energy policies. The country today, pp. 1A, 2A. 9. Book reviews must contain the name of author/editor and the book reviewed, place of publication and publisher, year of publication, number of pages, ISBN and the price. 10. The journal would also offer an honorarium to the contributors of the published articles: a. Special Article Rs.10,000 b. Articles Rs.6000 c. Policy Brief and Updates Rs.4000 d. Working Papers Rs.4000 e. Book Reviews Rs.3000 In case of more than one author for any article, the amount will be equally divided. 1.
