DTM 2004: GREAT EXPECTATION
The DTM is poised for a special season: motorsport of the highest calibre beckons with
new racers and brand new DTM racing cars – and even more exciting races.
Even off the race course the DTM race weekends will be more attractive than ever: a
unique event concept will appeal to the whole family, young or old – and at the same fair
and family-friendly prices.
News at a glance
The season starts on April 16th to 18th in Hockenheim.
The line-up of drivers, notably Opel’s new entrant Heinz-Harald Frentzen, has never
been so top-class.
With the new four-door DTM cars, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Opel will be parading
their most popular models – a return to the classic touring car.
Audi is participating for the first time factory-backed.
A gripping season-opener
The DTM is celebrating its season opening at the same place where it bid farewell last
year at a thrilling finale in front of 105,000 spectators – the Hockenheimring Baden-
Württemberg on April 16th to 18th.
„We are poised for a special season“, said Hans Werner Aufrecht, chairman of DTM-
organisers ITR e.V. „The first significant change is Audi’s factory involvement. This rai-
ses the standard of the DTM even further. Secondly, all three manufacturers are ente-
ring their best sellers of 2004. This shows sheer commitment to the DTM as was pre-
viously the case with the coupés. And thirdly, I’m naturally pleased about the many new
drivers.”
New stars and well-known winners
It was a coup getting him. The man is a legend, his face known to every child: Heinz-
Harald Frentzen, three-times Formula 1 winner and 1997 vice-champion. This year he
is driving for Opel in the DTM.
Another great champion is returning to the DTM after 13 years: Frank Biela, winner of
the 1991 DTM season. He will be driving an Audi A4 DTM.
And competing again: Bernd Schneider, the most successful driver in the history of the
DTM, the reigning champion, darling of the public and AMG-Mercedes driver.
