A greAt dAy for the redSox And their fAnS

This game was the most amazing opening day game ev-er in the history of baseball. In Boston over just Fenway Park, it had been hailing and pouring all day, which is really strange but nobody really cared. The Sox game had already been delayed for 3 days, and they wouldn’t be delayed any longer. So they played through it. The Red Sox really wanted to win this game. They need-ed revenge on the now good (for now) Rays for beating the Sox in last season’s game 7 of the ALCS, taking away their chances of a repeat (they lost to the Phillies in the World Series in what could arguably be the least watched World Series of the decade). The Sox ace Josh Beckett had a no-hitter going through6 innings, but he also got at least a 60 minute rest betweeneach inning because the Sox scored 13 runs in the 1

and scored at least 5 runsin each inning. Their bats were so good that game, theRays used up all their pitchers on their roster so they hadto call up pitchers from the minors. Things got crazy during the 5
th
inning. A huge Sox fa-
natic ran onto the eld dressed in a Coke can costume.
It caused a 30-minute delay. Finally some random girl ina Pepsi can costume came and tackled him (even thoughCoke is way better than Pepsi). And as a gift to the fans since of the occasion, everyone was given a hamburger a Coke.Everyone liked that. The Sox ended up beating the Rays 100-2. Fans ran on-
to the eld after the nal pitch was thrown. They lifted
Josh Beckett into the air. Everyone was awestruck.David Ortiz and Kevin Youkilis combined for 13 homeruns, 22 runs batted in, 3 triple baggers, 26 hits, and both hitfor a cycle. This 1-2 threat is arguably the best in the majorleagues, since the pair of Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz(who split up after last year’s last minute 3-way trade whichsent Manny to the Dodgers, some prospects from LA’s farmleague, to the Pirates, Jason Bay to the Red Sox, and someprospects from the Red Sox farm league to Pittsburgh). While offensively Ortiz and Youkilis dominated, people weren’t giving enough credit to former Rookie of the Yearand MVP, Dustin Pedroia, who single-handedly stoppedthe Rays offense. He handed the Rays at least 2 of the 3
