Spare That Cricket

By Elton Camp So it was a cricket you heard last night And in its song you took no delight But found it to be extremely disturbing Your sleep the critter to be curbing But he meant you not the least ill-will He hoped his song a girl would thrill Rubbing his forewings the sound does create The one you call noise and so intensely hate On the females front legs her ears are found So she can invite the boy cricket to come around The chirps are different for each species Thus, only their own type it will please It seems there must be something wrong In wanting to silence any song. With Robert Frost I just have to agree So why not just let the little cricket be?
