Before you install Unified CM, Cisco recommends that you review the“Important Notes”section on page6for information about issues that may affect your system.
To ensure continuous operation and optimal performance of your Unified CM system, you must upgradeto Cisco Unified CM 5.1(3f).If you ordered and received a server that is preloaded with Cisco Unified CM 5.0(4), you can downloadUnified CM software, version 5.1(3x), at Cisco.com.Cisco recommends that you check Cisco.com for the latest software updates to Unified CM and itsapplications and download and install the latest updates on your system before the deployment of your Unified CM system. For a list of commonly used URLs, see the“Upgrading System Software”sectionon page4.

These release notes discuss the following topics:
Cisco Unified CallManager, the call-processing component of the Cisco Unified CommunicationsSystem, extends enterprise telephony features and capabilities to IP phones, media processing devices,voice-over-IP (VoIP) gateways, mobile devices, and multimedia applications.
System Requirements
The following sections comprise the system requirements for this release of Unified CM.
Server Support
Make sure that you install and configure Cisco Unified CM Release 5.1(3f) on a Cisco MediaConvergence Server (MCS) or a Cisco-approved HP server configuration or a Cisco-approved IBMserver configuration.To find which MCS are compatible with Cisco Unified CM Release 5.1(3f), refer to the SupportedServers for Cisco Unified CM Releases, go herehttp://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6790/ps5748/ps378/prod_brochure0900aecd8062a4f9.html.
Make sure that the matrix shows that your server model supports Unified CM Release 5.1(3f).
Be aware that some servers that are listed in the compatibility matrix may require additional hardwaresupport for Unified CM Release 5.1(3f). Make sure that your server meets the minimum hardwarerequirements, as indicated in the footnotes of the compatibility matrix. Unified CM requires a minimumof 2 GB of memory, 72-GB disk drive, and 2-GHz processor.
Uninterruptible Power Supply
Ensure that you connect each Cisco Unified CM node to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) toprovide backup power and protect your system.
