Mental Golf: Being in the zone
Achieving apeak performanceand the peak of human potential is the desire of most athletes.This is called being in the zone state, a very powerful state that could help you achieve yourutmost potential that you never knew you can achieve and reach beyond the golfer’slimitations. A golfer was able to shut down his/her conscious mind and be engulfed by thegame, totally controlling every aspect of it and make what you’ve visualized happen.This could happen when an athlete, a golfer in this sense, frees himself/herself from allrestrictions brought about by unwanted thoughts and other distractions and when the golferrelease any emotional attachment allowing himself to perform without pressure. When a golferis able to surrender mentally, the powerful subconscious mind take control and do his job. In notime, the golfer is able toachieve his/her absolute peak.
How to be in the zone?
Let goWhen you are facing a difficult shot, like hitting the shot in the water, release the tension youare feeling. Any internal negative feeling is perceptible. The body will become stiff andmovements restricted thus affecting your overall performance. The best thing to do is relaxyour mental state.Condition your mind to take the shot without pressure. Let go of anyemotional attachments.FocusPractice to “switch on” or “switch off” your concentration during the game. This way you willbe able to save your mental and physical energy and be able to finish the nineteenth holewithout being overly exhausted and still consistent from the start of the game to the end.Negative thinking could slow down your reaction to the game.Learn to focus and refocus when needed. That’s what top athletes do.Be confidentOnce you step up on the ball, you should have faith in yourself and be confident that you canswing your club and hit the ball exactly how you visualized it. Think only of the present shot –not the previous or the next. Disregard any unnecessary thoughts and baggage. Remember, anynegative thoughts could send a wrong signal to your brain, producing a chemical imbalance andaffecting your performance. Optimizing this process inside the brain will optimize theefficiency and power of your brain. Thus, allowing you to enter the zone.Your mind and body function together. Your body reacts to what the brain is telling it to do.Your optimum potential can be reached when you learn to start on focusing todevelop yourmental skills plus a great deal of physical preparation. Acknowledge your limitations and stayfocused on the applying what you’ve learned from your mental coaches to your game andmaintain your confidence on your game. Have fun playing golf. Winning is a bonus you canenjoy along with it.
