GOOD
NEWS!BREAKTHROUGH
IN
EPOXY
The
new
low
toxicity
epoxy
from
Applied
Plastics,
is
now
approvedforreleasetoour
raw
material
suppliers,
Wicks
and
Aircraft
Spruce.
The
epoxy
is
called
SAFE-T-POXY,
which
is
aregisteredtrade
name.
RAF
has
done
aconsiderable
amount
of
testing
of
this
material,
andhave
found
it
to
be
as
good
or
better
in
all
respects
as
the
RAEF
and
RAES
andyou
will
no
longer
have
to
worry
about
which
touse.Safe-T-Poxy
does
notexotherm,
and
can
therfore
be
used
inbothlarge
and
small
layupswith
low
dangerofheat/foam
damage.Responcefrom
thosebuilders
testing
Safe-T-Poxy
hasbeen
100%
positive,
even
thoughthe
samples
were
not
as
easyto
work
with
from
a"thickness"standpoint-.-
We
areverypleasedwith
this
development,
andproud
to
havebeen
associatedwithApplied

in
this
milestonein

on

JW
and
used

gallons.That's4.57gals/hr!Icruised
at

at
about

to

power,

and
landingjoyridingfriends.I
used
one
quartof
oil
on
the
trip!
I'mpleasedwith

proud

26JW,

design

LONG-EZ
The
Long-EZ
equippedwithFred
Jiran's
prefab
wings
made
itsfirst
flight
on
June
13th,1979,
and
is
inthemiddleofarigorous
Hight-test
program
at
this
time.
We
have
put
30
plus
flight
hours
on
it
todate.
The
design
goal
for
the
Long-EZ
is
acomfortable,
two
place,crosscountry
airplane,
withlongrange
and
the
capability
ofcarryinga
starter
and
alternator
on
the
0-200
or
0-235
withoutthepenaltyoflead
ballast
inthenose.
Of
course,havingalargerwhettedarea
and
beingheavier
it
is
not
as
fast
nor
as
sprite1y
as
astandardVariEze.This
aircraft
was
designed
for
thosepeople
who
insist
on
having
starter,
alternator
and
full
electrical.
The
Long-EZ
has
longerrange,
more
wing
area
and
widerfuselagethanaVariEze.
It
sportsa
nose
rudderusingconventionalrudderpedals
and
toebrakes.This
isall
theinformation
we
have
torelease
at
this
time
and
we
would
appriciate
itif
you
builders
interested
in
Long-EZ
pleasewaituntilour
test
program
is
complete.
As
you
know,
ourpolicyhere
at
RAF,
isthat
until
we
arereadyto
sell
anything,
we
willnotencourageanyone's
interest,
until
we
have
amarketableproduct.

acceptability
depends

test

ROTORWAY
RW-100/VARIEZE
UPDATE
We
still
have
not
begun
any
formal
RW-100/VariEze
compatability
testing.
We
have
recieved
no
information
fromRotorway
that
thedevelopmentaldeficiencies
we
considernecessarytobegin
testing(stated
in
CP
#20)
have
been
corrected.Again,
we
must
cautionourbuilders
that
untilthedeficiencies
havebeen
corrected
and
an
acceptable
testing
of
reliability
and
performancehas-been
established,
we
will
be
unableto
ascertain
the
acceptability
ofthe
RW-100
or
any
other
alternate
enginefortheVariEze.
