Solaris Operating SystemAvailability Features

The Solaris™ Operating System (OS) includes features aimed at enhancingavailability by helping the system react better to certain types of normally occurringerror conditions. These features have been improved in recent kernel updates.Solaris 8 Kernel Update patch 108528-20 and Solaris 9 Kernel Update patch 112233-06 introduce an enhanced L2 Cache error-handling technique called ProcessorOfflining. Solaris 8 Kernel Update patch 108528-24 and Solaris 9 Kernel Updatepatch 112233-11 introduced an enhanced memory DIMM error-handling techniquecalled Page Retirement. Subsequent kernel update patches have modified and willcontinue to modify the behavior of the initial implementations. This article discussesthe availability features implemented as of the release of Solaris 8 Kernel Updatepatch 117000-03 and Solaris 9 Kernel Update patch 112233-12. Where necessary,notes are provided to indicate where features of prior revisions differ.
