Michael Faraday
Michael Faraday was born September 22, 1791 in England. He was a chemist and physicistwho worked in electromagnetism and electrochemistry. In the field of chemistry MichaelFaraday assisted Humphrey Davy in the study of chlorine. He also was able to liquify severalgasses. He also produced new types of glass which he thought would be used for optical purposes. Faraday also invented a version of the Bunsen burner. The system of oxidationnumbers was also invented by Faraday. he was also the first to study on what is callednanoparticles.Faradays largest accomplishment was in the field of electricity and magnetism. Faradayinvented what he called electromagnetic rotation. Which was a circular magnetic force arounda wire which led into a amount of mercury. There was also a magnet placed inside, and if powered by a chemical battery would the mercury would spin around the magnet. However Faraday published the outcome of his research without crediting too other scientists that heconsulted. These scientists where Hans Christian Orsted, who discovered electromagnetism, and William Hyde Wollaston, who attempted to build and electrical motor. His previousmentor, Humphrey Davy, attempted to slow Faraday's progress as a natural philosopher. Anexample of this is when Davy sent him to complete experiments which yielded no results. However after Davy's death, Faraday began working on items which produced tangible results. One of Faraday's more important discoveries was when he wrapped to coils of wire around an
