Twitter Minifesto – by Chris Fossenier
Overview
This Twitter Minifesto was created to help people get started with Twitter (andeven help out people with a bit of experience), figure out what to use Twitterfor, and how to get more twitter followers using tested and verified methodsand software. It is by no means a comprehensive document, but it certainlywill give you a good head start. I have decided to focus on the core followerbuilding principles that I have used to grow my followers over 12,000 in a fewmonths (and I am not a Twitter Superstar). This “manifesto” is a work in progress and I am constantly adding to it. If youwant to be kept up to speed on the latest in Twitter tips and techniques, sign-up to my mailing list here (http://www.mojopath.com/) or just check thedownload link every once and a while here(http://www.mojopath.com/minifesto/).

A Couple of Preliminary Questions
How Do I Get More Twitter Followers/Friends?
Getting more twitter followers (or friends) is not as hard as it might seem at first. The most important thing to remember is that you have a big advantage forgetting followers, and that is … you are totally unique, there is not another oneof you out there!! Okay, let’s get started.
What Are Some Reasons to Use Twitter?
At the end of this document, there is a list of over 75 reasons for using Twitterwith your business. Most of the points are courtesy of Fraser Hayes of the Results Academy.
Super Ninja Trick Bonus
It’s at the end (teaser).

1.Getting Setup The first thing you have to do is go towww.twitter.comand setup anaccount. It is very straight forward, but here are some important things toremember:i)Pick a good username, something that relates to you and whatyou are about. Choose something that will last.ii)If you are going to use Twitter for online business, setup twoaccounts at a minimum. One for your business persona and onefor your personal (if you plan to use Twitter for personalreasons).iii)UPLOAD YOUR PICTURE. One of the most important things to dois put a face to your Twitter account. Use a real picture of you,not a funny icon or a picture of your dog (unless it is your dog’stwitter account). This is important in attracting more twitterfollowers.iv)Complete your bio and put up weblinks to your website, blog, etc.v)Go through the Twitter Help herehttp://help.twitter.com/home 2.Spamming (make sure you do not do it Amigo!!)One of your first experiences on Twitter will be self-promoting, spammyusers. It is just a reality of the medium. Depending on what yourdefinition of spam is, users like CNN might be among the worst of the Twitter accounts that you follow. Updating frequently might benecessary depending on your focus, but make sure the information isrelevant and appreciated. There is a handy website calledhttp://www.followcost.comthat willgive you an idea of how “spammy” someone is. I took a snapshot of myself and a notorious social person (Scobleizer). My profile shows that my updates are fairly mild and that almost 50%of my updates are replies to updates from my friends and followers on Twitter (this is an indication that I care about my Twitter friends…or atleast that I’m chatty). I actually have a Golden follow cost!! You can see that Scobleizer has a Nuclear ranking because of so manyupdates and not that many @replies % wise. You do
NOT WANT
to benuclear unless you are a stock trading ticker or something like that.

3.Retweeting, Ethics and giving Credit This is an entire report in itself, but let’s take a crack at it.Retweeting or (RT) for short is something you should get used to doing. If you see some information you like, RT it to your followers. If they arelike you they will appreciate it and the person who originally sent it willappreciate it. Also, RT is a good thermometer of the quality of yourinformation. If you are not getting RTs on your posts, you are probablynot providing information that is of value (or your followers are thewrong followers!!).Here is an example of me retweeting another Twitter Users’ tweet. Theoriginal link was a bit.ly link so I used a website that I have to “re-shorten” that one so I can monitor the cicks, but @lfabert will still gethis clicks through his bit.ly link. Here is an example of a RT of one of my tweets. Nothing enlighteninghere, but it let’s you know if your friends and followers are listening toyou!
