Advanced: Reading Comprehension

Below is a short list of some of the hardest-to-get-into restaurants in the United States. The French Laundry restaurant, located in Manhattan, is famous for its two-month waiting list. The menu, which changes daily, is a jumble of bite-size tastings, the most modest of which involves five courses ($125) including cheese and dessert. The hardest place to get a reservation in Washington, D.C., aside from the White House, is a restaurant called the Teensy Minibar. Its especially tough to get reservations there because there are only six seats in the entire place. Reservations are taken a month in advance, and even then, you still may not get in. Pizzeria Mozza is a pizza joint located in downtown L.A. The general manager says people will do just about anything to land a table at this hopping place. Yesterday, somebody asked me if I would take a bribe. Its crazy what people will do just to get a reservation there.

Advanced: Reading Discussion

What is the main idea of this passage? The text lists three hard-to-get-into restaurants in the U.S. If you were to choose one of these restaurants to eat at, which one would it be? Why? The manager of Pizzeria Mozza says people will do almost anything to get a table at the restaurant. Why do you think people want to eat at this restaurant so bad? Do you think that its the food or the pizzerias exclusivity that makes this joint so popular?
