New energy solutions are on the horizon, brought to you by the pioneers of energy –America’s oil and natural gas industry.
revolution

The U.S. oil and natural gas industry, with well overa century of experience providing reliable energysupplies to American consumers, has a vital role toplay in leading our nation on the path to a sustainableand secure energy future. An effective comprehensiveenergy plan should recognize that oil and natural gaswill remain an important and significant source of energy for the nation for decades to come.
There is no more business as usual.
Now more than ever our nation needs tomove away from the piecemeal energypolitics that have failed so badly overthe past decades and get to work onan integrated set of solutions thatinclude improving energy efficiencyand developing all forms of domesticenergy, including oil and natural gas,and maintaining the maximum effortto protect our environment. The oil and natural gas industry willcontinue to invest in the research anddevelopment, the exploration and pro-duction and the infrastructure neededto meet today’s– and tomorrow’s – energyneeds. It is time for a comprehensiveenergy policy shaped by reason, commonsense and experience – an approachbased on state-of-the-art technology andcompetition in the marketplace that willbenefit, not disadvantage, Americanconsumers and businesses. There are no silver bullets or magicformulas to solve our nation’s energychallenges overnight. We need balanced, workable policies to encourage the long-range investments required to deliverenergy to meet tomorrow’s needs.

Our nation cannot afford to neglect our energychallenges. Nor can we solve our financial problemsby making our energy problems worse. We cannotstrengthen the economy if we weaken our energysecurity.
The time to act is now – use America’s oiland gas resources to put more Americansto work.
Energy is the backbone of the U.S. andglobal economy. The U.S. is the world’slargest energy consumer and one of the world’s largest producers of virtually allenergy forms.America’s oil and natural gas companiesrecognize that securing America’s energyfuture calls for a multi-faceted approachthat will lead us to the fuels of tomorrowand we are working hard to developthose next-generation fuels. But we have to begin with anadequate supply of oil andnatural gas to take us to thenew energy paradigm. It is not an “either-or”proposition. Even withsignificant gains in renewableenergy production, fossil fuelslike oil and natural gas willcontinue to meet more than half of the our nation’s energy needs fordecades to come. In 2008, wind andsolar energy combined provided justtwo percent of the U.S. electricitysupply, according to federalgovernment statistics. Just to keep up with growth inglobal energy demand, producers will need to invest more than $1 trillionannually from 2009 to 2030, accordingto the International Energy Agency. It is time for the United States, the world’s third largest oil producer andsecond largest natural gas producer, toget to work tapping the billions of bar-rels that had been placed off-limits byCongress for decades. The U.S. oil and natural gas industry is apillar of this nation’s economy. It employsnearly two million people directly andsupports another four million jobs, manyof which are high-paying and many are“green-collar” jobs in wind power, solar, geothermal and other renewable energyareas. The oil and natural gas industry alsoprovides billions of dollars from taxesand royalty payments that go to federal, state and local governments. And itsupplies oil, natural gas, refined productsand chemicals needed to keep Americagoing and working. It is an industry thathas the potential to provide trillions of dollars more to boost the nation’s economyand create tens of thousands of new jobsif granted greater access to federal lands.
