Welcome to the “SummerSpecial” edition of our
newsletter. As always
 there’s been lots happening
since our last newsletter, sowe will try to give you someof the edited highlights. The Club AGM was held inApril, I am delighted that weappointed volunteers to all the Committee Roles, I amhugely indebted to all par-ents who have committed their time thereby ensuring our club continues to growfrom strength to strength. So a big thank you to all the
“old timers”, and a special
thank you to the new mem-bers who have steppedforward to get more in-volved, already you aremaking a difference. Theclub always needs newfaces coming along as thenew and fresh ideas thatare brought to the tablekeep the club vibrant. If
YOU
want to become moreactively involved, throughcoaching, teaching or or-ganisation please makecontact via any coach, Com-mittee member or the clubwebsite:

Our newly designed websitehas been very well re-ceived, with new featureslike club records, minutesof meetings, and a coachesarea. I would like to recog nise the time and effort that Graham Bruno put in to deliver this enhancement to such an essential com-munication tool. There are a many changeshappening at local authoritylevel with control of sport inAberdeen passing from thecouncil to a Sports Trust,Swimming will be includedin this transition from thebeginning of July. Thisshould provide a level of financial security for thesport within Aberdeen thathas not been available pre-viously. The plans for a50m competition/training pool facility are well ad-vanced and due for comple- tion by 2012. In addition, changes within the COASTstructure are providing greater support and clarityfor our performance swim-mers progressing throughall levels of competitiveswimming. In summary, thisis an exciting time to beinvolved with Swimming inAberdeen. At club level our
Learn toSwim
scheme

continues tofeed on its previous suc-cess, a high percentage of our swimmers progressing  through into the Competi- tive squads within the club.Regretfully, ongoing councilconstraints mean we areoperating at maximum capacity, and currently have awaiting list for new swim-mers wishing to join theclub. This is not an idealposition for the club and wecontinue to pursue variousoptions to obtain increasedpool time to accommodate the numbers of swimmerswe are attracting to theclub. Finally I continue to be im-pressed with the numbersof our older swimmers whoare continuing to support the club through poolsidehelping, teaching , coaching and as committee mem-bers. It is satisfying to see these individuals choosing  to put something back into the sport that they haveenjoyed participating inover the years, many thanks to you all.I hope you all have a greatsummer holiday, enjoy yourbreak from training, andcome back after the breakrefreshed and raring to go.Thank you for representing and supporting Bridge of Don ASC

I took over the LTS classesat Linksfield at the start of  the block and it has been apleasure teaching all thechildren on a Monday andWednesday evening. Many of the children arevery new to the club so it isalways nice to welcomenew faces to the class. All the children in JT1 aregrowing in confidence eachweek and progressing well. The JT1A classes are focus-ing on core skills and basic technique. My only JT2class are becoming reallycompetent swimmers whoare focusing on stroke de-velopment and technique.During the summer holi-days I would encourage allmy young swimmers tokeep practising their newlyacquired skills in prepara- tion for the new block.

pool at Bridge of Don canbe a bit different, and it can take a while to get used to the new, deeper pool. Someof you weren't sure whetheryou could manage in thedeeper water at first. Butnow, you're swimming widthafter width with no prob-lems.If you started off nervous in the deeper water, butLots of hard work this termfrom everybody! We've cov-ered a lot of things this term, so thanks forlistening and trying hard. It's not always easy toremember all the different things I tell you to thinkabout each week!Moving from the smallerpool at Linksfield up to theworked hard and got used to it, then that deserves aneven bigger well done.

I’ve also been very grateful
for the in the water helpprovided by Stevie Brandsfor my Saturday morning
classes. I’m also aware that Danielle Dewsbury’s
help with classes taking place in the second tankhas also made a real dif-ference. Seeing someonein the water demonstrate askill can really help a swim-mer understand what isbeing looked for.As we near the end of this
block of lessons I’d like to
extend my best wishes toeveryone this summer holi-day
take care and keepswimming!
