Atlantic Records is an American record label best known for its many recordings of rhythm and blues, rock

and roll, and jazz when it first started, and now its popularity grows from recording Pop, R&B and Hip Hop music too. Over its first 20 years of operation Atlantic earned a reputation as one of the most important American independent recording labels, specializing in jazz, R&B and soul recordings by African-American artists. In 1967 Atlantic became a wholly owned subsidiary of Warner Bros.-Seven Arts, now the Warner Music Group, and expanded into rock and pop music, signing artists such as Cream and Led Zeppelin It currently has several popular artists of varying genres, from Trey Songz to Skrillex and Ed Sheeran to Sean Paul. At the recent 2013 VMAs, two artists signed to Atlantic records won awards, one of which was Bruno Mars award for Best Male Video.

Universal Music Group (UMG) is the largest American music corporation. It currently operates as a subsidiary of Paris-based media conglomerate Vivendi, with their global corporate headquarters located in Santa Monica, California. Universal Music Group codeveloped Vevo, a site designed for music videos inspired by Hulu.com, which similarly, will allow for free, ad-supported streaming of music videos and other music content. The music videos are shown in better quality than the original ones on YouTube

The Island Def Jam Music Group (IDJMG) is an American record label formed in 1999 when Universal Music Group merged two of its daughter companies Island Records and Def Jam Recordings. Artists include such multiplatinumsellers as Rihanna, Justin Bieber, The Killers, Ne-Yo, Young Jeezy and Kanye West. The labels Island Records and Def Jam Recordings continue to operate as their own respective labels as a part of the Island Def Jam Music Group umbrella (Island has concentrated on pop and rock performers, while Def Jam has most of the group's hip hop and R&B acts).

Syco Music, also known as Syco Records, is a British record label founded by Simon Cowell in 2002. It is a subsidiary of Syco Entertainment. Syco Music has offices in London and Los Angeles and is home to several artists. Syco has the exclusive right to sign winners and finalists of The X Factor and Got Talent. Susan Boyle's debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, has sold over 9 million copies, making it one of the best selling releases of the last decade and Syco's most successful release to date. In addition, in 2007, Leona Lewis became one of the most successful talent show winners when her debut single, "Bleeding Love", propelling the album Spirit to 9 million global sales. Syco's original base is in London and it has enjoyed most success in the UK market. From 2004 to date, the label has had 22 UK number-one singles. From 2004 to the end of 2009, the label achieved 13 number-one albums. Additionally, the label has achieved 7 top 10 U.S. albums since 2006. In 2010, Syco began diversifying by adding producer/singer-songwriter Labrinth. He also set up his own imprint, Odd Child, in conjunction with Syco.
