Background
History
Deep Ellum has a long history as an artistic melting pot, where artistsconverge to express themselves in many ways.For many years, the Deep Ellum Tunnelvisions project drew touriststo Deep Ellum. Envisioned by Susan Reese and spearheaded byDeep Ellum artist and Deep Ellum Community Association (DECA)board member Frank Campagna, it was a beloved Deep Ellumfeature. Unfortunately, the tunnel is now gone, buried by the newDART light rail line through Deep Ellum, and its absence has left avoid in the neighborhood. As Deep Ellum faces the prospect of gentrification, it needs projectsthat will support artists and continue Deep Ellum’s reputation as aneclectic, creative neighborhood.Deep Ellum also needs projects that will draw visitors to theneighborhood to walk its streets, eat, and shop during daytime.
