What is it all about?
For millennia philosophers and theologianshave attempted to address such questions as:
a
Is the universe eternal or did it begin?
 b
Why does nature have a rational structure?
c
Is there any purpose to human existence?
c
What is life?
d
Can the experiences of consciousness and self-awareness be reduced to the properties of thebrain or do they imply the existence of a soul?
It is in the latter part of the 20th century that somescientists have tried to get to grips with these mostfundamental of fundamental uestions.
