Thirty Day Challenge - 2008
Intro
While each video has its transcript, I wanted a common document to gather relevant info fromthe entire universe of them and add personal comments. After almost completing the challenge, the gems are the two tools introduced – Market Samuraiand WordPress Direct. Many of the other tools have high cool factors, but to me they are background noise to the gems. The two toughest aspects of the challenge (and the business it lays the foundation for) is thekeyword research and picking an appropriate offer. The rest is tool mechanics.Offers would ideally be plr in CB that you own so you do not have to share the revenue. Eventwo sales a week of a $20 product generates more than enough to cover the WPD charges andsome of the ppc if using that to generate traffic.
Market Research Tools
Google
From the ideas video (Day 1): When you search in the news area you can set the results as anRSS feed similar to an alert, but in your reader instead of getting an email. This may be moreeffective than setting an alert. It allows for a more leisurely review rather than fussing withfiling emails for future review.I’d create a folder (Market Research?) and funnel the feeds to there.
Market Samurai – ($69 one time payment)
MS is the backbone tool for market research, content management, and workflow management.Details can be found in its own document(s):(links).
Communication Tools
Twitter, Twhirl, Friendfeed, TweetDeck
These tools provide a backbone for communication during the challenge.

Thirty Day Challenge - 2008
Twitter
Twitter is a "micro blogging" technology. People follow and are followed and when someone posts a note (a tweet) all of the followers receive the info into their account viewer. It is web based. It is not meant to be a conversation tool like IM or other tools though that is often what happens. An advantage that encourages this activity is that it allows multiple people to talk to multiple people similar to MS Net meeting or other tools.Something to remember when using it as an IM tool is that every tweet is in the publicstream unless you block your account. This is unlike a traditional IM where the stream is private over your network. It is Too Much Information and too risky compared to an IM.There have been multiple articles on this risk. The attraction according to Ed Dale is the ability to "work it" from your cell phone. Since I amopposed to SMS this attraction is lost on me.This attraction also puts me in a position where I just don’t seem to "get it."The tool is high velocity, low intimacy if used as intended. It is medium intimacy if used as anIM type tool.Flock has a sidebar for Twitter. Updating the status is easy and does not break workflow.Clicking "Post Link" to post a URL to your Twitter feed jumps to the Twitter site in a newtab with the link in the Twitter post screen. Long links are problematic since they eat up precious characters of the 140 limit. The jump also breaks workflow/focus, which is avery strong concern with Ed.The Twitter Toolbar add-on uses the Flock address bar to post to Twitter and does it directly (not jumping to the Twitter screen). This is less intrusive and does not break flow. Ed uses it only for  posts that involve URL's.Ed normally has Twhirl based Twitter sessions on a second monitor, handy when he needs them, but not in the way if he is focusing elsewhere.Twitter limits tweets to 140 characters. It also limits the number of tweets each user can submit per hour in order to control its availability and performance. The limit varies depending on their  process load. If you exceed the limit, Twitter blocks your account until the hour turns. Twhirl hasa button that tells you where you stand on this usage.Your twitter stream can be fed to Friendfeed. There are also other services that will feed stuff into your Twitter stream such as tools thatannounce new blog posts.
200905:
After almost a year of use I still don't seem to see the attraction. I think it relates to myobsessive privacy orientation. Maybe it is related to my quick overload. I see more articlesrecently about people abandoning Twitter and some of the other services because of this issue.Tweet Deck (later) attempts to help with this by facilitating organizing the stream.

Thirty Day Challenge - 2008
Shy? Building relationships takes sending direct messages or replies and this takes time and risk to do starting with following the stream. With more than a few followers I could spend all mytime doing that and never get anything else done. It gives me flashbacks to my exploration of forums. I judge this as low worth.Mostly what I have done is use Tweetlater to tweet quotes I gather from various places and theoccasional "what I'm doing" comment when I think of it. It just has not become a core part of myroutine.Jim Edwards did an entire cast on how he thinks Twitter sucks and is worthless.
Twhirl and Twitter
Twhirl is desktop based. It provides a client based (non-web) interface for interacting withTwitter. Ed recommends using Twhirl instead of the Twitter website. Twhirl does all the site doesand more.Twhirl provides a similar function as Trillian does for IM services. It manages several backend products that accomplish the same end (IM) in a single interface. In Twhirl's case it is currentlyTwitter, Friendfeed, Seesmic (picture site), and ???.The main draw for Ed is that it provides tools for shortening URL's before posting to Twitter.Give Twitter's 140 character limit, this is a great feature to conserve characters. It would be a great use on a second video display along with the IM client(s).The @ means send it even if the person is not following you. This provides direct access toliterally anyone on Twitter (think big name high falutin' guru level folks). This is a veryimportant issue to starting conversations with new people. However, as one recent article stated, listen first so contributions can be relevant and significant (no “me too” stuff).Twhirl's URL shortening tool provides metrics (where?).Direct message (email icon) is private. It does not show on the general Twitter feed. Can't send tosomeone NOT following you.It is a great tool for team interaction.Reply strategy is to weigh the value of the comments to the general feed and decide what methodto use.The Favorites feature is little used. One use is to keep posts that are reminders to do something.Search goes beyond my personal feed to the general service feed and can be effectively used for market research and contact finding.Look up is by person. Search is by keyword.200906: Switched to Tweet Deck.
