Introduction
A common question we get all the time is…
“Why do I need a Facebook Public Profile page for my organization
If we already have a website?”
…too which we respond with a couple other questions:

Do you have a listing in the White and or Yellow Pages?

Do you advertise?

Do you have a sign outside on your business?

Do you already have more customers than you need?

The reason we ask those questions is to remind people that a Facebook Public Profile page
provides and additional point of visibility for your business or organization. However, instead
of only giving people the ability to find and have access to you geographically, your Facebook
Public Profile page gives you the ability to connect through Social Distribution with people that
share the same philosophy, similar interests, and have a need or desire for your product/service
access from anywhere in the world.

And more importantly, your Facebook Public Profile page is FREE. A listing in the White and
Yellow pages comes with a FEE!

As we move forward, we want you to keep in mind and remember why it is so vitally important
to continue moving in this direction. If you forget, begin to ask the people you interface with
on daily basis if they are on Facebook. Nearly 6 of every 10 will say YES.

Also, we understand that you have many issues and problems you have to deal with on a day to
day basis in your organization. Stepping out into the brave new world of social media and
online communities takes time, effort and faith.

KUDOS to you for working to ensure the future of your organization !

So, keep the faith and keep going. In the next chapter, we’re going to share with you examples of how others are using Facebook and give you marketing tips and ideas to ensure you will build a successful marketing and communication channel.

Definitions and Terminology

If you are like most people, you want to forget about the instructions and get right into making
your page. But wait! Before we do that,l et ’ s make sure we are on the same page and are
using the same terminology.

First of all, there are two types of profile pages:

Personal Profile page

Public Profile page

The Personal Profile page is designed to for an individual PERSON.I t’ s yours, mine and your friends. This is where we update data about ourselves and share it with others. Consider it your living biography. It is comprised of the information from your past, present and future.

Essentially, it is the gateway for people to get know what your who you are. (We will revisit this statement later.) According to the Facebook User Agreement, an individual is ONLY allowed to have ONE Personal Profile Page and they have been known to delete duplicates.

The Public Profile page is a page owned by a company, artist, bra nd, organization or non profit.
This is the place where your business displays its wears. It too is comprised of information from
the past, present and future. This is the where you as the business owner/representative get to
interact with people that are important to what you do. A Business may have as many Public
Profile pages as they would like.

Clarifications

Network = When you first start to build your profile, you will be asked what Network you
would like to be a part of. Examples are: city, workplace, school, or region.

Friend = Either someone that you have “Confirmed” as a friend or has “Confirmed” you asa
friend through a “Friend Request”. The term “Friend” exists only in Personal Profile pages.
