The 77TH Poodle Club of America National Show was another banner year thanks to thehard work of many, and I do mean MANY volunteers. Great thanks and congratulationsgo to Glenna Carlson, Show Chairperson, and her assistant, Art Foran who ran a smoothand professional operation. The Club received many compliments, and we are all veryproud of this year’s Show.Perhaps one of the highlights for me was the Board’s presentation of the American KennelClub Good Sportsmanship Award to Alice Wolaniuk. Given only once per year, Alice wasa popular choice for this year’s award due to her many years of service to the Club, not
only as a volunteer heading the Rafe, but in many other capacities as well.
Another highlight of the week was the presentation of a completely new judges’ educationprogram designed and presented by Scott Wolfe and Gina Weiser. The program is a freshapproach to teaching prospective judges about our breed, and we received many compli-ments on its’ originality and effectiveness. The program is targeted to convey the essenceof style, elegance, and other aspects of our Breed Standard which make the Poodle uniqueamong all other breeds. The program is a work in progress, and I want to give specialthanks to Scott and Gina for taking this project on. Their presentation was tops, and theymake a great team.On a business note, the Board approved the latest revision of the bylaws which we areprocessing through AKC before presenting the document to membership for a vote. Wehave attempted to update the bylaws, provide for greater communication between theBoard and the membership, and to greatly increase the ability to conduct business andcommunicate over the internet and through our Website. Hopefully this process will nottake too much longer depending on AKC’s approval process.Another important bit of information is that Volume XI of the Poodles in America has
been indenitely delayed. This in no way is the fault of the PIA publishing Committee, as
the work has become irrevocably delayed due to circumstances that are beyond the Com-mittees’ control. The Board apologizes for any this delay and will publish an update toadvertisers and members just as soon as events unfold and progress is known. We look forward to seeing you all at the PCA Regional this coming December, which willbe held at the AKC/Eukanuba National Show in Long Beach, California.Best Wishes until then,Jack MacGillivray
