Executive Summary:
Pest lists were prepared for
 Litchi chinensis
(lychee or litchi),
 Dimocarpus longan
(longan),
Mangifera indica
(mango),
Garcinia mangostana
L. (mangosteen),
 Nepheliumlappaceum

 Ananas comosus
(pineapple) fruit from Thailand. The pestlists were refined to identify quarantine significant pests that had the possibility to beintroduced via imports of fresh fruit. These pests were then considered in light of the proposal by Thailand to use the generic irradiation treatment (400Gy) as a generalmitigation measure for all fruit. All arthropods found to be quarantine significant for the U.S. would be effectivelymitigated with the generic irradiation treatment, including three lepidopteran species thatwould have only the eggs and larvae associated with commercial fruit. The generictreatment is not effective however against two quarantine significant pathogens foundassociated with longan and mango. Signs and symptoms of both pathogens are easilydetected but they can also be latent in some fruit. The diseases could be significant intheir consequences to their host crops but both require extremely unlikely conditions for introduction. The strategy suggested in both cases was to require certification based oninspection to ensure a very low escape rate and thereby reduce the probability of introduction of the pathogens to negligible levels.
