“Strengthening ACE (Academic andCharacter Excellence) by EnhancingEnduring Learning”: A Reflection
by Dominico T. BagacinaHead of Discipline
There are a lot of institutions these daysthat are aiming to serve their learnerswith sufficient and valuable education.Schools are giving all their best toprovide a safe and clean environmentwhich will help them make learningmore beneficial.Last academic year 2008 – 2009,HCEC’s theme was
“Building a Strongand Educational Foundation throughAcademic and Character Excellence”
. Building this foundationhad been a challenging task for us aseducators in piling up the strongestblocks of learning that are suited for our learners. We had carefully chosen thequality program for our learners toinculcate to them the 5 C’s and preparethem to become functionally literate andnationally or internationally competent.School leaders had also formulatedother non – academic programs todevelop and maximize other potentialsof our learners which would support inbuilding them as good leaders in thefuture.Just like in making an establishment,we need to think for more possibleprojects that would make it stronger andtougher. HCEC will never stop insearching for the best and qualityprograms that will help our learners tobecome competent in the future. The academic team believes that wehad built intellectual and values orientedlearners with our theme last year, and acall to make it stronger is a must. Thisyear’s theme:
“Strengthening ACE(Academic and Character Excellence) by Enhancing EnduringLearning”
will serve as our guide indeveloping programs that will support inenriching the learning experiences of our learners.Innovations on the different schoolprograms are made this year to answer the need in strengthening the learningand understanding of our learners.Intensified and values integratedacademic activities are designed toenhance our learners’ intellect thatmake the learning more enduring for them. Non – academic activities arealso plotted to further the developmentof their other talents and leadershipskills that still need to be awakenedwithin them. The holistic approachemployed in the curricular program willhelp the pupils maximize the use of their skills and be actively involved indifferent fields which they know theycan perform both in academic andacademic – related activities.Let us make these things happen.Ite ad Excelentia !!! Go for Excellence!!!!!
ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS
Academic Theme for AY 2008-2009:“Strengthening Academic andCharacter Excellence by EnhancingEnduring Learning”.
Formal education plays a vital role in educating the intellect and the will. Basic education, particularly, is the keystone inachieving competence, skills and character necessary to befully functional individual. In these formative years, the school must capture the learning readiness of the children and must  provide meaningful learning experiences that will inspire thechildren to grow and learn eventually. This year, HCEC gives emphasis on the formation and education not only of the intellect but also of the will and character. The school firmly believes that COMPETENCE and CHARACTER WITH EXCELLENCE ARE TWO ESSENTIALCRITERIA in preparing our children for life, for them tobecome fully human, better citizen and God fearing individual.
Excerpt from PB no.1,Vol.3
As the formation and strengthening of theintellect and the will continue, HCEC will usethe learning experiences as avenues andconcrete path to help every pupil excel bothin academics and in character. The academicprograms are designed to focus on thingsthat are essential, vital, and enduring tobecome lifelong learners and self-actualizedindividual.
