95% Retention rate for AY2009-2010: A great reason tobe thankful
Holy Child Main Campus is more thangrateful to all the parents who remain tobe loyal and continuously believe in theschool’s cause and thrust. This year’sretention rate is 95%, which is higher thanlast year’s rate of 88%. In spite of thefinancial crisis, the HCEC parents stillhold on to their unwavering commitmentto their child’s education in the mantleprotection and leadership of HCEC.In response to this steadfast belief andtrust of the HCEC parents, the school re-commits and re-dedicates its mission andvision for the maximum development of the HCECians.Thank you to all the HCEC TEAMParents!
 Grade 1 Obedience Parentsalmost hit the target
At 92% attendance, the Grade 1 ObedienceParents almost hit the 100% target! With thisthey manifested their support and collaborationto the Parents’ Orientation last June 20, 2009. Itwas held for the new parents and members of thegrade school division. To get oriented with thesystems, procedures and policies in HCEC Gradeschool.Likewise, the General PTA Assembly held in theafternoon for the parents from other levels had apositive response compared with the last year’sdata.With 70% attendance, a +14% increase inattendance is acceptable.Important academic issues were expounded to theassembly by the school principal, the institutionalacademic theme was presented by the Head of Discipline, Mr. Dominic Bagacina and the majorschool activities and initiatives by the Office of the Student Affairs were presented by Mr. MelvinFederis.The election of Homeroom Parents’ Officers wereheld after the general meeting, after which, thelevel representatives were chosen from among theelected presidents in every level.

 The very first Dance Workshop for the grade school held last summer yielded 21young kinesthetic dancers who showed their prowess in dancing the different genres of dances during their First Dance Recital last June 19, 2009. From hip-hop tofolkdance to Jazz to Ballroom dance, theDance Academy Dancers (DADs) put the grade-schoolers into amazement andwonders as they gracefully swayed andmoved into the groove. The Dance Workshop is a pilot project to come upwith a group of performing artists who willeventually be members of the Dance Academy, the official dance troop of HCEC grade school. This is under the training tandem of Mr. Jerickjson Getizoand Mr. Arjay Dimanarig, grade school teachers.

 Academic PolicyIt’s the Core Subjects plus theSpecial Subject grades
In compliance with the DepEd’s directive toalign the school’s data report to the requiredreporting procedure of the Revised BasicEducation Curriculum (RBEC), effective AY 2009-2010, the grade school division shalladapt the RBEC guidelines of computing thegeneral average per term which are as follows:1.
 
Compute the grades for each learningarea using the existing guidelines inrating the pupils.2.
 
Get the average of the learning areascomprising the special subjects: AralingPanlipunan, MAPE, CE/Rel & HELE;3.
 
 Add the average of the Special Subjectswith the grades in the four (4) coresubjects: English, Math, Science & Filipino.4.
 
Total grades divided by 5 is the averagegrade of the pupil for all learning areas.

More School Policies
1. Fetchers allowed inside duringheavy rains at dismissal time
At dismissal time, pupils will not be allowedto go out during heavy rains, fetchers areadvised to pick-up their wards in theclassroom
2. Suspension of Classes- TyphoonSignal no. 1- no classes in all Pre-school and Signal no.2 no classes bothfor Preschool and Grade school levels.
Parents need not wait for any declaration of noclasses from any school official or localgovernment agency during typhoon with stormsignals. If it is just a heavy rain or heavy flood,parents should use their own sound judgment. Absences during these times will be excusedand an excused letter must be submitted to theclass adviser upon reporting to school.
ARA Clubs to be launched onJune 27

year, the Academic- Related Activities(ARA) Program will now be in full swing for thisschool year as it will be re-launched this Saturday,June 27, 2009.Pupils will surely be overwhelmed with the natureof the ARA CLUBS for the new and exciting butlearning-filled activities are on their way everyFriday afternoon.The New Pupils will enlist themselves to their CHOICED ARA CLUBS. They will be guided bytheir class advisers as to what club they would liketo join. Parents may also take active part inhelping their kids choose their club depending ontheir interests and talents.The Academic Related Actives (ARA) thru itsClubs is a venue for the children to the 3Ds of their talents: Discover, Do, and Develop. These3 dimensions in interests and talents will be thefocus of ARA Programs acknowledging the theoryin developing the right brain of each child.
The Revitalized ARA Clubs
is backed-up with theMultiple Intelligence (MI) Theory recognizing thedifferent intelligences of individuals.

Applied Music starts this July
Flute and Dance, as new courses
 Arts appears to play a role in braindevelopment; Classes can changebrain and the way people think

Dancing and music instruments enhancethe right brain development.
-Brain Based Learning Theory 
45 grade school pupils benefited from the school’s program “ the AppliedMusic class” which was started lastacademic year. Under this program,pupils were given a one-on-one class inmusic specifically playing their choseninstrument. Their performance iscredited in their music grade which isunder MAPE subject.It has been noted that children withexposure in arts-whether visual orperforming arts, gain more self-confidence, establish self-discipline andfocused attention which are importantskills in personality and academicadvancement. Brain-Based Learning  Theory states thatmusic and movementhelp in the balanced the braindevelopment.HCEC is into holistic education andrecognizes the importance of alliedacademic programs that enhancelearning; thus this year two new courseswill be offered: The Flute Workshopfor the Bamboo Band and the Dance Workshop for Dance Academy. Pupils who will be enrolled in thisprogram will be exempted to attend their Music or PE Class in which case, they will use their time as theiradditional special training day aside from theirSaturday regular training class.

Bamboo Band for Gradeschoolers
In response to some requests to come upwith more musical instruments wherepupils can enroll under the Applied MusicClass, Flute Workshop will be held everySaturday at 9:00-11:00 am. Attendees of the workshop will be trained to bemembers of the HCEC Bamboo Bandwhich will represent the school in outsideperformance. Being under the appliedMusic Class, the Flutist has the option to join or not to join the regular Music class.Their performamce in playing the flutewill be the basis of their grades in the saidsubject. The Flute Workshop is open to allpupils in Grades 3-6 but is being offeredalso to those grades 1-2 pupils who areinterested to learn the instrument. TheBamboo Band has an open slot for 50members who will have an equivalent ARA points as members, if to representthe school in an off-campus performance,a corresponding point shall merit thepupil. However, flutists to join theoutside performance will be chosenaccording to their perfromance.Free flute to all those who will join theworkshop which will start on July 11,2009.

Because of thesuccess of theSummer Dance Workshop, its 2
nd
wavewill be held every Friday which will starton July 10, 2009 3:30-5:30 pm. Graduatesof the Dance Workshop will be part of theDance Academy Dancers (DADs) whichwill be the official HCEC Dance Troop.Membership will be under particularguidelines and policies to regulate thequality of the members. A corresponding ARA point will also merit the members of the DADs. Likewise, outside performancewill also be given ARA points wheremembers who will join shall be accordingto their level of performance.
