 friends, fellow humans,the world has watched you suffer for desiring and seekingwhat the God of Heaven and earthmade you to be: free.In many lands there are those who lovenot what you seek, but power and those religions which give it to themeven unto blood – and your friends in the worldhave watched yours soak the ground.This poet would be thrice-hated by your rulers,a Jew by blood, Christian by belief,and American by birth,though first I be a true citizen of Heaven, born anew of God’s Spirit.And as such I offer you a hand of friendshipfrom the king of Heavenwho, when he returns to cleanse the earth,casting down tyrants, lifting up his meek ones,will establish his everlasting kingdom of glory.I speak of – and for – Jesus of Nazareth,who came into the worldto take upon himself the punishment for the sins – transgressions of the holy Law – of all those who love and trust in his name.For worse days than yours are comingon the whole earth (the devil’s brief hour)and the only place of safety and loveis in his infinite heart – so come to him,your Savior and God, enthroned in the heavens.In his gospel he says, “Come to me,all you who labor and are heavy laden,and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you,And learn of me,“for I am meek and lowly in heart,and you shall find rest for your souls....and the one who come to meI will by no means cast out....And I will raise him [or her] up at the last day....
