What is The Alternative School?
The Alternative School (known as TAS) was set up to offer an alternative
education programme for those young people who are not making progress
within a school environment for whatever reason.
It is a totally flexible and unique programme that is tailored around the
specific needs of each individual young person.
Young people are referred to TAS from a variety of places including local
schools, YPS, PRU’s, Police, Family Support

What is The Alternative School?The Alternative School (known as TAS) was set up to offer an alternativeeducation programme for those young people who are not making progresswithin a school environment for whatever reason.It is a totally flexible and unique programme that is tailored around thespecific needs of each individual young person.Young people are referred to TAS from a variety of places including localschools, YPS, PRU’s, Police, Family Support and often self referral from friendsor other young people that they know.Each young person referred to TAS will work to a timetable that has beendesigned around them, has also been designed with their input and is 100%personal to that young person.The timetable will vary greatly for each young person and will include a highpercentage of one-to-one work with additional team projects and activities tohelp build confidence, team working and social skills.Each young person will have the opportunity to build their own portfolio,partake in both indoor and outdoor activities and achieve qualifications andcertificates that are relevant to them.At TAS we aim to take a more holistic approach and support both thepersonal and educational needs of young people, helping them to overcome awide range of barriers and develop themselves into well rounded youngindividuals.
 
FULL-TIME PROGRAMME
(4/5 days per week) - 16+ hoursPOSITIVEeducation
Individual Timetable1:1 supportTAS Curriculum (Maximum class size of 4)Literacy/Numeracy/ICT (Edexcel Accredited)Duke of Edinburgh Award (Accredited)Counselling Sessions, 1:1 Mentors, Y.P.S. Personal AdvisorTAS Activity Programme (AQA Accredited)Abseiling, Canoeing, Kayaking, Archery, Caving, Mountain Biking,Street Dance, Fishing, Raft Building, Rock Climbing, GorgeScrambling, Football Skills, ‘DJ’ing and Kick Boxing.Pupils obtain at least 3 qualifications + portfolio of work,progression onto F.E.
PART-TIME PROGRAMME
(2 days per week) 14 hoursPOSITIVEeducation
Ideal as a stand alone programme or part of a reintegrationpackage back into school, available for years9, 10 and 11Designed for a group of 10 pupils requiring additionalsupport / motivationTaught in a class size of 5 pupilsCollection and Drop Off in a minibus (if required)1 day activity / 1 day portfolio buildingWork towards Edexcel, AQA`s, Sports Leaders AwardsExpected Activities - young people can chose from the aboveactivities or choose their own activity, and we will do our best toaccommodate this.
