The Word of God: Its’
Importance to the World and to MeBy Marc T. ClarkSeptember 17, 2013BBL101: How to Study the BibleInstructor: Pastor C. Romano
While it would be relatively easy to find someone who has never read the Bible, Ithink it is safe to say that we would be hard pressed to find someone in our society thathas never heard of the Bible. The mere mention of the Bible can illicit varied responsessuch as: deep reverence, disgust, hatred, or complete indifference. Why is the Bible,The word of God to Christians, important to the world? I will briefly give reasons to the
Bible’s importance to the world in general terms and hope to provide more insight to theBible’s importance by sharing why it is important to me.
Why is the Bible important to the world? The Bible is important to the world for several reasons. The most compelling reason lies in what the Bible claims to be, theactual word of God to mankind. When we as people receive information we oftenscrutinize it and the f
irst question we ask is “what’s the source?” In the case of the
Bible, the source is the creator of the universe (someone you may want to listen to)!The Bible has also been proven to be historically accurate, never to contradict itself andcontains 3200 verses with fulfilled prophecy (Peach, 2011). As the Bible states through
Paul the Apostle in 2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is given by inspiration o
f God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”
So theBible can be tr
usted because of its’ origin and for its’ content. The Bible is filled with accounts of God’s interaction with man and with His
instructions to man. While there is a wealth of wisdom to be gained from the pages of the Bible, the most urgent message of importance to the world can be explainedthrough the following verses:
Hebrews 9:27 “
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the
Romans 3:10 “There is none righteous, no, not one;”
Psalm 9:17 “
The wicked shall be turned into hell,
all the nations that forget
1 Corinthians 6:9-
11 “
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit thekingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,
nor sodomites,
nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
Andsuch were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but youwere justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit
of our God.”
John 3:16-
18 “
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the worldthrough Him might be saved.
“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but
he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed inthe name of the only begotten Son of God.
John 14:
6 “
Jesus said to him,
“I am the way, the truth, and
the life. No onecomes to the Father except through Me
These and other verses in the Bible should be used to warn the world that they haveone life to live, they are guilty of sin punishable by Hell, and that through faith in JesusChrist alone can they be saved. The word of God teaches this and many other useful, dare I say, important things.
